2024/02/24 English

BGM: Simon & Garfunkel - A Simple Desultory Philippic

I can't see how much this can work for me - but from 2020, I started trying to write down various ideas on a memo pad in English. It was when I had gone to Himeji to see my doctor. After that meeting, I went to a stationery shop at there and found the tiny memo pad "Mnemosyne", and got an inspiration to use it. And - for four years I have been writing this memo everyday.

But, why on earth did I start using English to write? I can't tell - but using English must have suit for me, therefore I can keep on doing this. I will never say that I have a strong will, and also am a diligent person. So all I can say about this is just you should find your own way to keep on having any great habits like this.

TBH, when you live in Japan, you rarely use English during usual daily life. Although we the Japanese ones have learned English really hardly, it is really difficult for us to master that. And, when I started this habit of writing this, I had to find that it was really difficult for me to find out any proper words to explain my ideas. Yes, I needed to make practices to arrive this stage/level.

And I ask this for me now- has this habit changed me? Indeed, this has afforded me many opportunities of using English actually. For me, using English can mean that I can move/transfer into another world/dimension. Yes, as some books tell, by using foreign/alternative language I can find an unseen/sleeping personality of mine. Although this must need us to think about carefully, I say using English makes my personality really complicated, therefore really profound.

Today I worked early, and after that I attended an online meeting on Discord. After that, I enjoyed a great friend of mine, Victoria's room on zoom. There, we talked about dystopia by reading a novel "The Giver." It reminded me of various great achievements (Yes, George Orwell's novel "1984", Terry Gilliam's movie "Brazil" - and how about suggesting "The Truman Show"?) However, it seems my English level is not enough for following the discussion so I need to have a courage to practice at any actual conversation. Thank you, Victoria!
