I worked early today. This morning, during working time, I remembered my past days (especially in my 30s when I had been just diagnosed as an autistic person). Now you can find so many pieces of information about autism anywhere. On the internet, and also any public spaces... However, in the 2000s when I was diagnosed so (the period we just used the keyword "Asperger Syndrome"), even I couldn't understand what the concept of autism could be.
Yesterday, I wrote about a famous Japanese TV personality Fuwa Chan who might be autistic. On Twitter, besides that news, I read some discussions (or arguments) that are related to autism. I am simply surprised by the fact that the concept of autism has become so popular enough that we can use it very easily to exchange plenty of information with each other. At first, I confess this surprise in me with a certain thanksgiving to the pioneers who have created the path until now this moment.
TBH, among us (I mean among autistic people) it seems some troubles that actually divide us into many pieces. At least from this viewpoint, someone says that the autistic people who can easily enjoy that kind of bar (there are that sort of "autistic bars" for autistic ones) must be simply different from them (the ones who are so poor). I guess it certainly sounds so critical, but I also want to appreciate the fact that the trials of organizing that sort of bars are precious enough, therefore I wonder if we can find any sort of bridge between both opinions.
As I have written in these journals, now it seems the era of diversity (and also, the very ambiguous "neurodiversity"). Whether you want to or not, maybe you have to face this troublesome concept every day... Writing this now, I have thought about this. What position are you standing about this? An autistic one like me, or a neurotypical one? Even though, the idea of autism suggests to us that we are connected with the fact that our characters of brains are on a certain gradation (so, in a way everyone can have a sort of autistic character). However, we also need to define what can be autistic or not (to find out the troubles someone can have). Oh my goodness!
