BGM: David Bowie - China Girl
It was a day off. This morning, I had done a shameful mistake. On Discord, at a Spanish server, I did use English too much even though other members used Spanish mainly. This could come from my bias which has allowed English could always be an almighty language/tool for us to make conversations. I must write this with an embarrassed feeling to remember deeply into my memory.
At last, I attended the English study club I have mentioned many times in this journal. There, we tried to read "The Book of Tea" by Tenshin Okakura (岡倉天心.) in a circle. But, when I had to read it out by my voice loud and show my translation in Japanese, soon I faced that my trial of translating was really poor therefore I had to stop the flow. Oh my goodness. The other members helped me a lot, and I could finished saying my opinion about it (at last, a host said to me "excuse me, your voice is too small." I had to remember I had kept on wearing a mask there... I should remove it off.)
This afternoon, as I had promised, On WeChat a Chinese female friend and I talked for a while. She used English to talk to me, and so we could enjoy having a good conversation by using video function. I shared with her that a part of a Chinese poem which says "we sleep a lot at a springtime therefore often forget the dawning [春眠不觉晓]," and also said like this. Life is for me only one time entertainment, therefore I want to enjoy fully enough until its ending. She seemed enjoying this opportunity I guess as I could do... I hope so.
By remembering these three events, I see this fact. Using English enables me to have such pleasant opportunities to enjoy. But, I need to look back/reflect on a simple principle that every language/culture has its own dignity therefore I have to face/treat it carefully. Oh, I must learn not only the skill/ability of English, but also a certain sensitive mind to understand foreign cultures.
This evening, I read Koutarou Sawaki's "Midnight Express [深夜特急]" steadily. From this great, marvelous travelogue, I need to learn more about the imaginative mind/attitude I have written above...
